UK Trade, February 2010

UK Trade is a key economic indicator due to the importance of international trade to the UK economy. It is also a very timely statistic, providing an early indicator of what is happening more generally in the economy. In addition, it is a major component of two other key economic statistics – UK Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the UK Balance of Payments. This means that there is a threefold potential for UK Trade statistics to inform the Government’s view of the UK economy, as well as the views of others, such as economists, City analysts, academics, the media, and international organisations.

Results from the ICD-10 2010 bridge coding study: stillbirths and neonatal deaths

The software used by Office for National Statistics (ONS) for cause of death coding has been updated this year from the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) v2001.2 to v2010. This bulletin presents the main findings from a bridge coding study of 2009 stillbirth and neonatal death registrations (in which deaths were independently coded using v2001.2 and v2010), to help users understand the impact of this change on perinatal mortality statistics for England and Wales. The impact of ICD-10 v2010 on other deaths has been investigated in a seperate study.

Health Expectancies at birth and age 65 in the United Kingdom, 2006-08

This report presents the latest figures on male and female health expectancy, at birth and at age 65, for the UK and its four constituent countries. While life expectancy (LE) provides an estimate of average expected life-span, healthy life expectancy (HLE) divides total LE into years spent in good or ‘not good’ health. Disability-free life expectancy (DFLE) divides LE into years lived with and without a chronic illness or disability. These figures are three-year averages. LE is taken from the UK national interim life tables published annually by ONS, and the measures of health and chronic illness from the General Household Survey (GHS) in Great Britain and the Continuous Household Survey (CHS) in Northern Ireland.
